Our goal is to build a community of students who are diverse and multi-dimensional, self-starters who will contribute both in the classroom and in the field.

To that end, we seek students with

• Outstanding transcripts that reflect a strong academic record, successful completion of prerequisites, and progress toward meeting distribution requirements in current program
• Engagement with community and/or campus organizations
• Demonstrated leadership capacity

An application is required for admission to the Bachelor of Science in Information program. There are three ways that students can apply for the Bachelor of Science in Information program: as a high school student (preferred admissions), as a transfer student from another institution, or as a currently enrolled U-M student (cross-campus transfer). All require that students be admitted to the University of Michigan before applying to the School of Information.

Currently enrolled U-M students – Cross-Campus Transfer

The School of Information admits students for the Bachelor of Science in Information degree as juniors. Current University of Michigan undergraduate students apply once they have sophomore standing and transfer to the School of Information as juniors. The Cross-Campus Transfer application is administered through the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. The application deadline is February 1 each year.

Students at other institutions – External Transfer

The School of Information is pleased to announce that starting in Fall 2017, we will be accepting external transfer students from community colleges and other four-year institutions. Prospective students are encouraged to review information about the University of Michigan’s external transfer requirements and deadlines.

High school students – Preferred Admissions

The School of Information admits students as juniors; however, we encourage students applying to the University as freshmen to indicate their interest in later transferring to the School of Information by choosing the Preferred Admissions program. The Preferred Admissions process is part of the Common Application administered through the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.
